We want your child’s restorative treatment visits with us to be as pleasant for them as possible. To help your child relax and cooperate for filling, crown, and other restorative procedures, we administer non-addictive and non-allergenic nitrous oxide/oxygen combination. Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide/oxygen is given through a small breathing mask which is placed over the child’s nose. This allows your child to relax but does not put them to sleep. While inhaling nitrous oxide/oxygen, your child remains fully conscious and maintains all natural reflexes. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes this technique as a very safe, effective technique to use for treating children’s dental needs. After your child’s restorative treatment is completed, the nitrous oxide is discontinued. Your child will breathe oxygen through the nosepiece for a period of time to quickly eliminate the nitrous oxide gas from their body.
